THE SAFETY OF ALBUTEROL DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING
THIS MEDICATION MAY CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY: Inhaled albuterol is the preferred treatment option for asthma during pregnancy due to the risk of negative maternal and fetal effects associated with poorly controlled or uncontrolled asthma during pregnancy. There have been limited human studies that have looked at the safety of albuterol during pregnancy, but available evidence is not conclusive on the risk of birth defects with use of this medication during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester. Albuterol is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding. Cautious administration of albuterol during pregnancy along with maternal/fetal observation are required.
