INFORMATION FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE PAIN DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING

What kind of pain is typical in pregnancy?

You can experience any kind of pain during pregnancy, but pregnant women often experience pain in the lower back or pelvis in particular during pregnancy. This pain is associated with the growing uterus pushing on the lower abdomen and pelvis and with your increasing weight. Your abdominal muscles may struggle to work right as your uterus grows, and this can cause your lower back to pull forward. (Called lordosis or swayback.) Pain is called acute if it began within the past four weeks and is called chronic if it has been present for more than 3 months. If present from 1-3 months, the pain can be called subacute.
