What is polycystic ovarian syndrome?
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. The condition is characterized by very long and infrequent menstrual cycles, due to higher than normal levels of male hormone (androgens) circulating in the body. Numerous cysts consisting of small bits of fluid form in the ovarian follicles.
