INFORMATION FOR WOMEN WHO USE HERBAL PRODUCTS DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING
What are herbal products?
The term “herbal product” encompasses a variety of substances that are sold in the form of dietary supplements, creams, sprays, infusions, extracts, powders, teas, and other items that you use on, or take into the body, but that governmental agencies do not categorize as medications. This does not mean that they can't produce changes in the body the way that drugs do. It only means that the chemical agents that the products are purported to contain may not have been measured, tested, purified, or otherwise processed the way that active ingredients of medications are processed.
