INFORMATION FOR WOMEN WHO USE GINGER DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING
What is ginger?
The word ginger refers ginger rhizome, the underground stem of ginger, known by its biological classification Zingiber officinale. It is commonly used as a spice for foods, but it has been studied for possible effectiveness against nausea and vomiting, including the nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. Although studies have involved small numbers of subjects, and often have been of low quality, ginger may produce a slight benefit against nausea. You can consume ginger in various baked goods, including cookies such as ginger snaps, candies, in certain cooked foods, in tea, and in more concentrated forms including pickled ginger (served frequently with sushi), as well as capsules and other preparations that are sold as herbal products that are not regulated.
