THE SAFETY OF ZAROXOLYN (METOLAZONE) DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING

THIS MEDICATION CAN CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY: Zaroxolyn (metolazone) should only be taken during pregnancy if medically necessary, as determined by your doctor. This medication crosses the placenta to reach the developing baby, and no sufficient and well-controlled studies have looked at the safety of metolazone during pregnancy. Taking diuretics, such as metolazone, during pregnancy can cause health problems in the developing baby, including low blood sugar, low sodium and potassium levels, blood disorders, and liver problems. Diuretics can also reduce blood volume in the mother, which may interfere with the baby’s normal growth and development.
