THE SAFETY OF WARFARIN DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING

THIS MEDICATION CAN CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY:

There is a lot of evidence to show that Warfarin taken at any time during a pregnancy can seriously harm the developing baby. It can cause miscarriage, bleeding in the baby, or death of the baby. Warfarin has also been associated with a wide array of serious birth defects when taken at any time during pregnancy.

While on warfarin, you should avoid getting pregnant. If you would like to get pregnant, you should discuss this with your doctor BEFORE trying. There are safer medicines to reduce blood clotting and your doctor may be able to change your therapy before you attempt getting pregnant.

There is sufficient evidence to show that warfarin does not pass into human breastmilk and does not harm breastfeeding babies.
