THE SAFETY OF MICROZIDE (HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE) DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING

THIS MEDICATION CAN CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY: Microzide (hydrochlorothiazide) should only be used during pregnancy if medically necessary, as determined by your doctor. This medication can reduce total blood volume in expecting moms and decrease blood flow to the placenta, which could interfere with the baby’s normal growth and development. Additionally, taking hydrochlorothiazide while pregnant can cause other health problems in the developing baby, including low platelet count, electrolyte abnormalities, and low heart rate. In severe cases, these complications could lead to death.
