THE SAFETY OF DABIGATRAN DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING

THIS MEDICATION MAY CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY:

There is very little information about the use of dabigatran in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dabigatran may cross the placenta to reach the developing baby. On the basis of very limited data, it does not appear to pass into human breast milk. Because dabigatran works by inhibiting blood clotting, a possible side effect is bleeding and the concern is that it may cause bleeding in the baby or cause a miscarriage. There is no information about whether dabigatran can cause birth defects.
