What traditions or how do you teach your kids that Christmas is not about getting gifts and Santa Claus. We are not very religious so we don't go to church. I'm trying to teach that giving is better than giving. But at a small age - toddlers it's hard.

Toddlers are inherently selfish -- their brains haven't developed enough yet to truly understand empathy. It sounds like you're doing a great job!

I choose a charity to give to every year, I give them a budget to shop for boys and girls who don't have mommies and daddies or who wont have a lot of toys so we have to help everyone so no one will be sad. I also make meal bags that I keep in my car to give to homeless, I don't explain what I do yet unless they ask, but that's my duty to show action on what I teach so I make sure they witness that without preaching.

I've been working lately on teaching my son to give to those who have left.  Not necessarily only during Christmas time but throughout the year we will purge his clothes and toys and he helps me drop things off to a shelter/salvation army
