How often do you let your kids watch TV?

My kids get some bit of tv just about every day. It's the only way I can get dinner made without them sending each other to the hospital. But, I also feel like we balance it well because we're always reading and doing activities.

I let my son watch TV when I need to get things done. I'm with Lucy, it's the only time to ever get anything done. I restrict what he watches, of course, but usually, once I'm done whatever I'm working on, we will spend time outside or doing something else together. There's nothing wrong with kids watching some TV.

I’ve always been annoyed by those “perfect” moms that say absolutely no TV! I’ve been in arguments started by mom’s because I let my son watch TV. We have things to do as mother’s and our sanity is important!! As long as they aren’t watching bad things, who cares if they watch TV?

TV is a necessary tool but limited amounts and please be selective. Not just TV but screen time.

We try to read for 20-30 mins before any screens come on. Im usually itching to start my long list of to do items by then.

My kids rarely watch TV on weekdays. With homework, dinner, chores, etc. they don't have much time. I do allow them to watch TV on weekends. We don't have cable. We have Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. We monitor everything that they watch, and a lot of times we watch TV and movies together. My kids are 11, 9, and 13 months. Lately, we have been enjoying watching old episodes of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" which is a great educational show! We pause it and guess the answer before it is shown! We have also been watching old episodes of "Family Matters" because it is a wholesome family show with great life lessons! I like for most of the things that they watch to serve some sort of purpose, and not just be mindless TV.

Mine watch every day.  But I try to keep it to a minimum, like 20 minutes before bed.  But sometimes, when there's other stuff going on or the kids are sick... it's more.  A lot more.  I just try to keep an eye on the habits we're getting into.

Admittedly, they watch more than what I ever intended. But at the end of a long work day, it's just too much to deal with whining and everything while trying to decompress from work and get dinner ready. So they watch at least 1-1.5 hours a day so that I can stay sane.

I put it on when my daughter asks, which is maybe once a day. She doesn't sit in front of it though, she will play while it's on, so I really don't mind.

My son with special needs was fine with tv until all of a sudden one day he wasn't. Just seeing the tv (or hearing it) caused a major meltdown. So we turned it off and it's been off (unless he is sleeping) for more than two years. Honestly, I think we have become a closer family because of it.
