How did you discuss 'stranger danger' with your child? I have a very social and enthusiastic 2 year old. I love that he is so nice to people and don't want to ruin that, but I'm aware not everyone is as nice as he is... so how do you draw the line? Do you just maintain their innocence until an incident comes up?

This is probably what I will end up doing, along with the books. Seems like songs seem to get the point across better than talking about something does.

There are actually a bunch of stranger danger video clips on youtube. We've also read a few books about when it's safe to talk to strangers and when it's not!

My child is very loving and likes to be around people. I tell her all the time that she shouldn't be so friendly and speak to strangers, because not everyone is nice or have good intentions.

My oldest is in a karate class that teaches them to drop on their back (heavier and hard to pick up) and kick as hard as they can while yelling stranger danger as loud as they can.

This is the route we took. Find a character they connect and are interested in to introduce the topic and then have discussions with him from there. I found it easier when we had characters we could use as a reference. We talked about introducing ourselves and what to share and when to stop, oversharing was a big problem for us.

Do you have specific videos or books that you like the most? I would love to share these with my child as well.

We practice through role play actually ! My three year old gets it. We go through different scenarios of when its ok to speak to a stranger and when it's not. We are also actually in the process of teaching him his address and phone number in case of an emergency!
