To be honest it's hard to mentally prepare. All I can suggest is that you pray and just listen to your doctor.
My first c-section was not my option. It was medically necessary to save my life and my daughter's life. It was the scariest experience of my life. The recovery was longer and more painful than natural birth (in some ways). So if the c-section is not a surprise it might not be enjoyable, especially after a day of active labor. I did, however, decided to have an elective third delivery via c-section and that was amazing. It was like an appointment except in the end I had a baby without labor. I went into the hospital at 7am, they got me checked in and ready, by 7:45am, I had my daughter in my arms.
From someone with natural birth, an emergency c-section, and an elective c-section.... everything will be ok! I promise. Just know at the end, you'll look upon a beautiful face that will make you forget the pain that you just went through!
Im guessing it isnt your first choice of birth plan. If you're heading to the OR then it is medically necessary. Know that you gave it your best and be grateful that we live in a time that c-section is an option. No matter what happens, it is your birth story
