trying to decide if it is worth the trouble to try and have baby at home. I want to have a water birth, but the hospital we have to use (Kaiser) won't allow you to birth in the tub. you can only labor in the tub. Did any of you ladies want or have a home birth?

I think I would risk a home birth only if I lived literally minutes away from the hospital. But really home births just scares the bejeezus out of me. Isn't there a center that has relaxed suites and if something goes wrong, they could immediately wheel you or the baby to the OR or NICU?

I'm sure it's cool but don't you want all the medical support you can get in case something would go wrong?

I'm fascinated by home births, I mean, this is what is done in many parts of the world and despite all our advances and creature comforts we have too many caesarean sections and maternal death rate is said to be too high in this country. But... having said all that I have no regrets about my hospital births. 95% of my nurses were just superb.

I wish I was able to have a home birth, my 3 babies were all high risk, and unfortunately, I was not a candidate.   Have you had the chance to speak with a professional?  Maybe weighing out both options that fits best with your birth plan?

We considered doing a birth center with my first, but ended up having a hospital birth because my husband felt more comfortable with that. If that is what you want and what works best for you, I say go for it! If you have a great midwife, I think it would be an incredible experience for you.

Hospital all the way mama! I'm sure both have their pros and cons, but personally, I loved the feeling of security during the labor process at the hospital.

I think the hospital is the safest bet.

I love the idea of a home birth but I just would never want to risk it. If something were to go wrong  I would want to be in a hospital where they could help me or my baby immediately. I dont have anything against home births, just a personal preference.

we had Kaiser too! I have always wanted to do a home birth, but I decided to have my first in the hospital. I had no idea what to expect as far as pain, and I didn't want to be in a position where I was in so much pain I wanted drugs or couldn't handle it and didn't have the option. But the labor tub was amazing and I think I will be fine at home for the rest of our babies
