What about freelancing sites like Upwork? They are well-respected and there are verifications for payment.

I have just started using Upwork actually as a freelance writer, editor, proofreader, etc. and I like it so far!   There are TONS of jobs posted and the site is easy to use.

Freelance websites are the best I've been working remotely for over 6 years!

If you're crafty, you could sell things on etsy.. or I know of a few people who teach English to Chinese people online and make decent money from it.
I'd just try to stay away from the pyramid scheme type set ups.

There are so many different ways, I would look into freelance work if you are good at a certain skill.  Or Etsy is a great idea if you crafty.

Is your professional background in those things (writing, editing, etc)? I wonder how to get started if your previous career was something else.

Upwork has a lot of opportunity for short-term or ongoing work. You could also sign up with web usability sites and focus group site that pay for participation. Virtual Vocations and The Mom Project are job boards that cater to work from home situations.

I didn't have much luck with the Mom Project but Upwork has plenty of opportunity. You really have to invest time into your profile of course and avoid scammers.

The best sites are Upwork and Appen. They are legit work from home jobs that anyone can qualify for if you have a computer.

Agreed! Nice suggestion.  A site like that allows you some freedom with income, and you can find some creative projects too.

I am an architect and actually while in between jobs, designed small projects for clients/friends/family. It wasn't for building purpose, but just design in the home.  It was fun!

Upwork, Virtual Vocations, The Mom Project, - you can find remote work if you hunt around. Good luck!

I have made money using Ipoll in the past!

Hi Amanda,

I always hesitate to do surveys for money because I worry that they will sell my answers  or use them in a manner that I am not sure I'd approve of. Questions about education and income level and other pointedly personal questions and then suddenly I hear you have an uptick in junk mail offering you particular credit cards or highly specified marketing based on your answers.

However, if this was not the case when you used this site, please let me know. Personal information is everywhere these days anyway so...

I love using Upwork. They do take a hefty percentage which sucks however I do like the work and the flexibility it provides me. Also it's awesome to choose new fields to try.
