Belly Binding

Did anyone do belly binding after birth? It is a technique rooted in the Malaysian culture, which involves wrapping your belly with fabric until it resembles a waist trainer or corset. It can be done a day or two after you deliver! I would like to hear of your personal experience with this technique. What were the benefits or drawbacks? TIA!

I did belly binding a day or two after delivering the baby. It was VERY uncomfortable at first, and I struggled with doing the binding on my own. After a few days of wearing it, I quickly adapted! Belly binding is more beneficial than wearing a waist trainer because it covers more area. A waist trainer doesn't support your ribs and hips, but belly binding does! It goes from right under the chest to below your pelvic bone. There are MANY benefits. Here are a few:

  • Helps the body heal faster by assisting the uterus, pelvic organs, and all other internal organs
  • Assists the abdominal walls to retract which helps prevent diastasis recti
  • Helps shrink cells by getting rid of excess water retention and fat storage
  • Encourages body to expel blood naturally by lessening lochia and its duration
  • Helps prevent pubis symphysis diastasis by supporting the pelvic area and pelvic floor
  • Helps realign posture to its pre-pregnancy state while encouraging good posture
  • Helps prevent back pain
  • Lessens after birth pains
  • Improves circulation
  • Hormones are more easily balanced
  • Closes the pelvis and rib cage
  • Beneficial for a stillbirth or miscarriage because of its physical and emotional support
  • It provides a feeling of being safe and secure
  • It is comforting
  • It feels awesome as it soothes the body, mind, and soul!

I started wearing one a few days ago (after being home for over a week); it's too soon to really tell, but it does make me feel better since I can tell it's sucking everything in. It's not comfortable to sit in though.

I haven't tried one myself but have always been curious about whether they work or not!  So many different ones out there to choose from too!

Yea, I did something similar to that. I know it could be uncomfortable initially, but it help structure and bring firmness to the belly.

I wore a waist trainer type wrap that I got from Amazon. Nothing fancy, but it helped so much with my back pain in the first 6 weeks or so. I think it helped my stomach shrink back down too
