When we started having kids, I was 18. I didn't homeschool my oldest children. Now the oldest is in high school/college, I took him out of traditional high school in 9th grade after coming across some bad apples. He attends an online program while attending college full-time, he'll graduate high school with a college degree. My oldest daughter will start online junior high next fall, my youngest daughter will continue in a charter school until 8th grade before moving to the online high school.
My unborn baby, will likely always be homeschooled. After my experience with school with my three older ones, I think the public school system has some serious issues. The bullies are hard to deal with, the teachers are too overworked with too many kids, children are always tested... there is a better way. Lucky for me, I live in a very progressive state that has a lot of options for parents. Check out what your city or state offers. Or check out K12 online. There are options out there.
