I have never had Charlie horses before, only when pregnant. But they wake me up and are so painful. Any tips for helping prevent them from happening?
Anyone else get some crazy Charlie horses during pregnancy?

I do! They are the worst. But sorry I have no tips for preventing. I'm going to follow this thread to see if anyone else does though.
The worst thing ever... OMG. They keep me up for hours. The more active I was in my pregnancy the less they seemed to happen. Water! Drink lots of water but I don't have a lot of advice. They will go away after the baby is born.
What worked for me was doing these things before bed:
- warm bath or hot shower
- stretch
- massage the calves
When all fails, I pinch my calf & it seems to shorten the cramps hahaha
I had one during my second pregnancy and thought it was the end... they are AWFUL but apparently very common. I sat on the floor and pulled my toes back and that seemed to help get rid of it when it was happening. Then, moving forward I drank a TON of water!
Yes! It was because I was dehydrated, according to my doctor. I always kept a bottle of water next to my nightstand to sip on overnight as needed!
They are the worst!!! I always got mine at night. I freaked out the first time because I had never had one before and didn't know what was going on. I think staying hydrated is best. Also, I've gotten to where I can feel them coming on and can usually flex my calf before it hits and stop it.
I was told to eat a banana a day. The potassium is good for preventing these painful cramps!
Yes! I also used water and tried to strech before. I am not currently pregnant anymore. But i did hear that drinking pickle juice may help (because of electrolyte imbalance). Its worth a try!
I have also heard that potassium will be helpful with this. Worth a try.
I did. I was dehydrated! The baby sucks up a lot of your water!
Drink lots of water and eat more food. Try to prop your feet up it will help relieve the charlie houses.
Every single one and they hurt like hell. Drink lots of water and have some bananas. That will help. Hope you feel better and congrats mama!
OMG!! Every time I would climb the stairs I would get a sharp pain from my right hip, down my thigh--- Oh Jesus!! I had to just stop and breathe for a minute before I fell down the stairs. My OB recommended Prego Yoga and Physical Therapy. The PT helped a little, along with a heating pad and warm towels on my hip and leg--but this was the worse pain ever!!
Me!!! I sure got some crazy wild ones. I would wake up from a deep sleep and always wake my boyfriend up to tell him. It happened at least 8 times while pregnant.
I did! Try drinking more water, and lessen your salt intake! They are so painful!
Hydrate hydrate hydrate, drink a lot of water, stretch before sleeping and when waking up, massage the calves, hot packs, hot shower or bath works wonders
Make sure your meeting your electrolytes, like potassium and magnesium. Try eating a banana a day
I did. Try sleeping in compression socks. I found this helpful! And I also drank tons of water!
