Hi everyone,

I am trying to think of ideas for my daughter's first birthday. What did you end up doing for your LO's first party. It is in February so I was thinking maybe even doing something Valentine's themed since it is close to the 14th. Or I was also thinking about Veggie Tales or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse since she is into both of those shows. Also.. for food. Did you feed the adults that attended the party. I was thinking about just picking up a sub platter to make it easy.

We did "Oh the Places You'll Go".  Everyone signed the book and I plan to give it to her when she graduates high school.  I did doctor suess themed food and I invited our close friends and family.  I did green eggs and ham for the main food...ham and cheese sliders but used a pick in each one that had a silly green poof on top and then avocado deviled eggs.  The decor was great and fun to plan.

Feed your adults!!  A sub platter definitely makes life easier and then you could make a few dips to go with or a veggie and fruit tray.  I would say go with a character that she loves or the valentine's idea.

Mickey mouse club is super cute. I have a pinterest board all ready to go. I plan on doing a unicorn party I can kind of use pretty colors nothing to fancy and have the cake/cupcakes bet the pop decor. I also found some pretty glitter balloons. I say go sub platter! easy clean up! I love to cook so id pre make ziti and salad. Kids seem to like it, parents too.

keep it simple and don't worry about going all out. Your baby isn't going to remember it. I kept mine to close friends and family . Minimal decorations and a cake smash but did splurge on a one year photo shoot.

Megan posted this 19 November 2018

We did a simple unicorn party for my niece and had "sparkle cake pops" unicorn popcorn and just simple finger foods and a few games. Didn't cost much and I think parents were happy with the no fuss of it all.

Kathryn posted this 19 November 2018

I like the Mickey Mouse theme. Older kids will be there too and adults im sure so food and ice cream a must. Games are fun too. For the food nachos and hot dogs are a hit.

Oh the list can go on, I did Mickey Mouse for my sons bday, So many cute things you can do. I really enjoy the 1st bday party so much.

Mine will be one soon and we are doing a winter “Onederland” theme. Will be having a chili bar and hot cocoa bar as well as cake just at our home with family. Simple.

We did mermaid theme! The decorations were super easy to find so I had it the exact way I wanted it to be

Christina posted this 28 January 2019

I did a winnie the pooh theme 😊

Desiree posted this 28 January 2019

We did Dora the explorer and definitely feed the adults something!

I'm tearing up at this idea!

Feed the adults for sure! 1st birthdays are a big deal and I tend to feel like they're more likely to expect something bigger. Mickey Mouse is a good choice because who knows?! They might continue to like mickey and you could use it for more than one year! ha ha. I am always looking at ways to recycle things so they don't go to waste.

Amy posted this 08 May 2019

We did Elmo theme b.c my son loved sesame street! Just do pizza...who doesn't love pizza adults included!

Jane posted this 09 May 2019

For my son, we did a vintage Peter Pan them with an emphasis on the pirates. I just made a big pot of pulled pork and had chips on the side. I ordered cupcakes from a local bakery. I kept it fairly simple, but did create little cards to put them around the house with quotes from the book (Mermaid Lagoon was by the punch, etc.)

My daughter's first birthday we did a Lemonade theme, so everything was pink and yellow. We used a wooden crate and some other leftover materials and created a tiny lemonade stand, which turned out great for her photos. I just picked up some chicken salad from a local restaurant and some breads, served chips, and lemonade (of course). Again, we just kept it simple but still had fun.

After having 2 boys I gave birth to a little princess in Jan 2019. I’m dying to have her a sunflower themed party.

Smruti posted this 19 May 2019

I did the mickey mouse theme. And I could find a lot of thematic decoratives at Party city 😊. Also had my kid do a smash cake in one of the No.1mickey outfits 😊

Anyone of those themes are adorable! We did provide kid friendly and adult food at my kids parties.

I know the original question was posted a few months ago, but these are all good ideas.  My daughter had mickey mouse themed. It was classical, lots of reddish colors too and it seemed to fit for Valentine's Day.

Natalie posted this 21 May 2019

I am planning a first birthday and decided on a Bernstein Bears theme!

Anne posted this 21 May 2019

We went overboard, but I think the first year was a big celebration. The second year we did a smaller gathering. I did feed adults, which I think is what made the expenses higher.

Anna posted this 22 May 2019

We're saving the big parties for when the kids are older. For my LO's 1st bday, we did a BBQ with close family. She got to swim and eat a cupcake, so she was happy! Nothing fancy

Cynthia posted this 29 June 2019

I helped plan my sisters 1st bday for her daughter and good lord was that stressful and EXPENSIVE. When I have my baby i am keeping it simple. But Im sure you cant help it 😫

We had a wild-one themed party for our son with wildlife animals. A super cute idea I saw for girls is a “Happy Bee-day” with bumble bees and flowers sooo cute! I would also feed your adults!

Agree with this. The cake smash is a must! I do regret not splurging more on professional phots. I don't have any!😖

One word. PINTEREST! My daughters 1st bday is in a couple of months and even though I haven't started planning it yet, I know I'm going to be getting a lot of my ideas from Pinterest. Her bday is in November so I'm sure I'm going to be doing something Fall themed. You can make heart cookies to fit your theme. Best thing is you can get a lot of your decorations from the Valetines day isle.

This sounds adorable and I feel like would be super easy to plan! Love this!

We are doing Under the Sea theme because they love fish, ocean, dolphins, etc.

Tara posted this 19 August 2019

My oldest's birthday is July 4th so that theme was easy enough to pick out, but for we second we are doing "You are my sunshine" theme! Definitely feed the adults! A sub platter is a great way to make it easier on you! No one is expecting anything extravagant, just make it fun for your little one!

Cardi posted this 28 August 2019

Kid friendly food is a must! We did a unicorn party for the first one! It was one - even had a pony there.

Carey posted this 12 September 2019

i think anything you do will be great because you are celebrating such a huge milestone, but we did mickey mouse as well. i did a candy bar (for the older kids who were coming) and pizza and cake. i will never forget that day!

I found some great ideas on pinterest, using all her photos from the first year. It wasn't a specific theme, just sort of "cute baby"  And absolutely I fed the adults - but her first birthday part was mostly adults.

I'm due soon with my first so I don't really have any input. I'm here for all the great advice from all these lovely ladies! The Valentines theme is adorable btw and definitely feed the parents!

My little one's birthday is on November 1st so on his first birthday we did a FALL theme. It was so cute! We had fall-themed snacks, pumpkin bars, apple cider, etc. We had fall activities for the little ones. All the kids got to paint a pumpkin and bring it home with them! This year he is turning 3 and we are having his birthday party at a local pumpkin patch!

Beth posted this 28 November 2019

Mickey Mouse would be adorable and definitely easy to find supplies for! Sub platter is Smart along with some chips and maybe salads.

Ann posted this 17 December 2019

We did a "Wild One" theme like the book "Where the Wild Things Are". I think you can definitely keep it simple with food! I went to Costco the day before and just got cheese and crackers, chips, and a sheet cake.

Isla posted this 13 February 2020

I did a Toy Story 4/Carnival theme complete with a candy bar and all. We ordered pizzas, popped popcorn, got funnel cake fries and had our candy bar... it was a great time and really easy!

Nina posted this 18 February 2020

I did Alice in Wonderland theme with tea party. It was garden based-greenery and pastel flowers. It turned out super cute! I got tons of ideas on pinterest.

That sounds like fun. Ours was mostly based on the location: we did it at a park. So, the theme was more outdoors, less cartoony. We took the best pictures, too. She played with her cake and got it all over the grass, her dress was a mess, and she was so happy.

I have seen really cute Cat and the Hat one year old themed partieis.  I would check out Pinterest.

We made the mistake of having our 1st birthday party at a museum, because our son loves dinosaurs...well with the Flu bug going around, no one attended other than close family and friends. A total waste of $$. Chuck E Cheese is always a good one and themed house parties are always fun!!

Unfortunately I do feel like you have to feed the adults that attend.....a sub platter is completely acceptable though I think! Just have something there. Also, bonus points if you have wine for the adults.......

whit posted this 24 March 2020

Everyone has really cute ideas here! I think that everyone needs to have some sort of food, adults included, but it doesn't need to be over the top - snacks or a sub platter would be good!

My daughter is turning one in June and we plan on having an Under The Sea party with tons of underwater animals and a hint of mermaid stuff. I found a lot of cute themed food on Pinterest.

Since she was so young and really didn't have a clue about what was happening, we just gathered family at a large table at a restaurant. Of course we had a cake and she opened presents (er, we opened them for her while she ripped up the paper) but it was still fun and easy. We didn't have any other people with young kids though, so might not be the best option for you. Have fun!

Cecily posted this 01 April 2020

Finger food and cake and ice cream. A sub platter is a good idea. We kept things small as much of the family lives far away and I felt bad inviting people like my coworkers. Winne the Pooh was the theme
