INFORMATION FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE NARCOLEPSY DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING
What is narcolepsy?
Narcolepsy is a disorder of sleep featuring an excessive amount of daytime sleepiness. There are different types of narcolepsy. The most common form is Type 1, in which the sleepiness is characterized by cataplexy, a temporary loss of muscle tone that is stimulated by emotions. Usually, this happens on both sides of the body and lasts for under two minutes. In Type 2 narcolepsy, there is no cataplexy; instead, the sleepiness is due to a deficiency of a substance called Orexin A, which normally circulates in the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
