THE SAFETY OF CELEXA DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING
THIS MEDICATION CAN CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY: Celexa should not be taken during pregnancy unless the benefits of treatment outweigh the potential risks to the baby. Human studies that have looked at the safety of Celexa during pregnancy suggest there is a low risk of birth defects with first trimester use. Taking antidepressants that affect serotonin, like Celexa, during the third trimester of pregnancy may increase the risk of health problems in newborn babies. If Celexa is continued during breastfeeding, nursing infants should be monitored for negative side effects including drowsiness and irritability.
