THE SAFETY OF CHLORPROMAZINE DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING
THIS MEDICATION CAN CAUSE HARM TO YOUR BABY: Chlorpromazine should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if it is required. Human studies that have looked at the safety of chlorpromazine during pregnancy have not identified a consistent increase in the risk of birth defects with this medication. Taking chlorpromazine during the third trimester of pregnancy may increase the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms (drug-induced movement disorders) and withdrawal in newborn babies. Nursing infants exposed to chlorpromazine should be monitored for adverse effects.
